For Tigger on her Birthday

Or supposed to be on her birthday, but my internet just died.

Nick sighed as he and his parents - his real, biological parents, he still had trouble believing it - pulled into the parking lot of Ernie's Juice Bar. It was good to be someplace, if not quite home, at least familiar. Home was in Briarwood, now.

But he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling he'd had since that guy in the uniform had given him that weird look back in Silver Hills.

"So what is this place?" Leanbow asked as they dismounted from their motorcycles.

"A juice bar. It's more like a community center; people come hang out, get lunch, do homework. My older brother was here all the time when he was in high school. Taught karate and stuff."

"Older brother?" Udonna shrugged off her leather jacket as they stepped inside and looked for a table. "You did not mention a brother, as well as your sister."

Nick winced. He knew he'd forgotted something. "Aly's going to kill me," he groaned.

"Forget Aly," came a chipper voice from behind him. "Just think what Tommy's going to do when he gets ahold of you."

Nick turned, looking around, and then down. "Kimberley?"

The older woman pouted. "I'm not that short, Nick, am I?"

"No, you... used to be taller. Than me, I mean."

"Everyone was taller than you at age ten," Kim teased, grabbing his arm and dragging him to a table. A dark-haired man stood, flipping shut the cellphone he'd been talking into and pulling up some empty chairs. He smiled and held out his hand. "Jason Scott."

Leanbow shook it. "I am Leanbow, and this is my wife, Udonna."

"They're my parents." It felt strange, saying it out loud to people he'd known most of his life, but it was a good start. He was going to have to say it to his adoptive parents, anyways; he might as well practice.

"Really? Congratulations!" Kim beamed. Jason clapped him on the back, grinning. "You're going to meet the Olivers? They're great people, I'm sure they'll be thrilled."

"You really think so?" Nick asked skeptically.

Jason nodded. "Yup. You don't remember David?" Nick shook his head. "Tommy's half-brother? I could've sworn he introduced him to everyone, he was so proud. Your parents didn't even blink, just asked if he like to come over for dinner."

"Really?" Nick tried to remember. Everything had been kind of strange back then, what with the... giant monster attacks... He stared at Jason. "There were giant monsters."

Leanbow and Udonna blinked, suprised by the change in topics. "Bowen?" his mother asked.

"Bowen?" Kimberley echoed, puzzled.

"It's my real name," Nick replied, distracted. "Giant monsters in Angel Grove?"

"Mm-hm." Jason nodded, looking at the menu. "Started back when we were in high school. Honey, did Kevin tell you if they got more mangoes?"

"But..." Nick looked at his parents, who were equally confused. After all, one had been evil and imprisoned in the Underworld, and the other had been keeping an eye on said Underworld in case they tried to attack. They hadn't gotten a chance to watch TV.

"Oops, sorry. I saw Nick and just forgot." She stood and headed for the counter.

"How can you be so calm about this?" Nick demanded, almost glaring at Jason. "There were giant mosters attacking this city, and giant robots fighting them, and I just forgot?"

"People tend to forget when they leave," Jason shrugged. "Unless they were directly involved, repeatedly, or never left the area. It became someone else's problem."

"And we can be so calm about it because nothing really phases you after you wind up being kidnapped by evil space pirates and are held in their brig to be fed to the pirate queen's evil demon boyfriend as a wedding present," Kim added as she set down a strawberry smoothie and a mango-cherry smoothie. "You did want the cherries, right, sweetheart?"

"... What?" Nick was still confused. But he was getting less confused. He was starting to remember other things, too. Like Tommy running out of the house at weird times. The dirty, torn up clothes that seemed to always wind up in the trash. How so much of his clothing had been one color or another, just like his friends'... Wow, hindsight was twenty-twenty.

"Well, I still blame you," Kim said, gesturing behind the magic users. "I really liked that outfit, too! I never did get the fish smell out."

Nick twisted in his chair.

"Hey." Dr. Tommy Oliver said from behind him.

"Hi," Nick replied, feeling a little dazed.

Tommy looked him up and down. "Well, at least I know who to give all my red shirts to."

That came out a bit strange... Hope you enjoy, Tigger.

Why in fuck's name does my brother have to be such an ass? I go downstairs for a bit to do something I was asked to, and as soon as I come back up the stair what do I see? Him. On the computer. On WoW.

It's Saturday. I'm going to be gone from about 7:30 to 2:30 in the morning. He's going to be on all that time tonight.

And on top of that, I lost a day yesterday. It thought yesterday was Saturday, and I missed out on a bunch of shit I could have done. I coould have donated plasma. I could have called USAA again. I could have called the fucking courthouse, for god's sake, and found out what I need to do for this stupid ticket I have. And I was stuck thinking it was Saturday until 7pm.

And so I made the usual Saturday deal with him, that he can be on all night because it's Saturday and I wasn't even going to be here. But it wasn't and he invited a friend over, and I was stuck, awake and bored and twitchy, until 6am. And then I finally fell asleep for a few hours, had weird nightmares, and woke up to him. Still on the computer.

IT'S MY FUCKING COMPUTER. Hell, it was my fucking WoW account. All I want is some time, to not think about how we don't have any money, how I don't have a job, how my tooth hurts and my ear's stopped up and I feel like a worthless piece of shit. That's it. Some time to escape.

It's not my fault it froze out here, that he couldn't go to work. It's not my fault my mom won't let him go to school like a normal kid, so he can be with his friends all the time.

What the hell am I supposed to do?

I haven't made it through the first ep(s) yet, but part of me is cringing at the thrown-togetherness of it, and the other part is giggling madly at how DUMB the characters are.
To everyone I've friended in the last week or so:

Hi! Most if not all of you are fanfic authors I've been following for at least a year now, and never thought that you would have LJs of your own. (What was I thinking? God's got an lj, for crying out loud, even if it is a joke.) I've been rereading/catching up/rediscovering the fandoms that you're in, found out you have journals, and of course, like any delighted little fangirl, added you. I want to keep up on all your new fics and hope you'll seduce me into new fandoms (which is usually how I get into new fandoms anyways). I also hope you'll friend me back.

I can't wait to read your new stories, or the chapters for your current fics, or hell, anything you put out. I don't talk much, but I will DEFINITELY read, and comment (unless I feel I don't know enough about the source material, and even then I'll grammar nazi for you).

With Much Love, Affection, and Plot Bunnies,
kurobahikaru, also known as Jess.
The Kindness of My Heart, -5

So, went to see Goblet of Fire last night, full costume. I loved it. It was great. Can't wait to go see it again tonight. I was tired enough that I crashed at a friend's house when I dropped them off and got home around 8:30-9 AM. I was woken up around noon.

Why? My sister had come back to town yesterday and decided to use my bathroom. And all my shower supplies.

There are a few reasons I have a problem with this. It's my day off, I have no access to a car, and I should get to sleep in is one. My buying all that stuff with my own money and not wanting to have to let someone else use it (no matter how she calls it "sharing," what she does isn't; taking anything someone else has and complaining when they take yours is NOT sharing, by any stretch) because I worked long and hard to get it is another. But the third's the kicker. I went to all the trouble to buy shampoo and conditioner (not expensive stuff, but something) to put in her bathroom so she would quit using mine. I shouldn't have been suprised to find out she took advantage of it. She took it back with her to her place in Corpus because she ran out. Which means I'll have to spend more money to keep her out. Or just lock the doors to my room... Which is probably what I'll do, as soon as I get my brother to teach me how to unlock them from the outside. The worst part is that I'll have to let my cat in all the time, he litterbox is in my bathroom.

I shouldn't have to do this. And she wonders why I'll never move in with her, ever.

"Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live." - Oscar Wilde

So, I have not posted in a while, mostly because I think my life is boring and there's nothing interesting going on. Aside from my bursts of frustration with people, and that means I bitch, and I don't want to because it makes me feel mean or something dumb like that.

But now my brother has challenged me, and I'm actually curious to see how far I can go with it. I wrote a fic snippet a while back, and he found it on my comp. He's demanding I finish it, because as he says, "There's not enough Kaitou Kid fic out there, and this is really good!"

So I am putting it to you, people on my friends' list, to tell me if this is any good and should be expanded. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope(s)!

Magic Kaitou/The Magician crossover, take one.

“Well, then, I’ll just go put this in your office, Daddy, until I take it home tonight.” Mona said, and made her way up to the elevator on the second floor.
Gasps and shouts of surprise coming from near the front entrance made her stop and turn around. Head around the room turned to see… Mona Malone?!

Another Mona Malone, clad in a green dress with golden accents, hair up on her head in an elegant twist. She stepped calmly into the center of the room to stand by Ace, looking up at the woman on lounging against the second floor railing. “Nice dress,” she said, arching an eyebrow. “It looks good on you.”

“Really?” the doppelganger asked. “I wasn’t sure I’d fill it out right, and that would have been a shame. It’s a very nice dress.”

“I’d noticed,” replied the real Mona with a hint of sarcasm, crossing her arms. “That’s why I was planning on wearing it tonight.”

“Well, you know how hard it is to find something to wear to these things… Besides, I needed to distract you. You couldn’t get here too early, and knocking you out so you missed the whole party would just be cruel.”

“I’ll bet,” scoffed Cosmo, coming to stand on Ace’s other side. “You’re a thief who doesn’t like to be mean?”

“Hey, just ‘cause I’m a thief doesn’t mean I have to be an ass, y’know. I’ve got some manners, and I don’t hit ladies. Especially beautiful ones.” The amused look on the clone’s face – the Kid’s face – turned into a smirk. “What were you doing after the party tonight, Miss Malone? ‘Cause I know this nice restaurant…”

“Actually, she was having dinner with me,” retorted Ace, taking a step forward. His eyes flashed dangerously, then flicked to the left of the Kid.

Part 1

Angles
This task tested your ability to identify the angle of a line by matching it with its twin. This is a spatial task, which looks at how you picture space.

Your score: 10 out of 20
Average score for men: 16.4
Average score for women: 14.7

What does your result suggest?

If you scored 0 - 12: You have more of a female brain. Scientists believe that people with a female brain find it more difficult to judge the slope of a line because they're not wired for spatial tasks. In past studies, 65 per cent of people who scored in this range were women.

If you scored 13 - 17: You found this test neither hard nor easy. This suggests your brain has male and female traits when it comes to spatial ability.

If you scored 18 - 20: You have more of a male brain. On average, men outperform women in this task and those with more mathematical knowledge tend to score quite high as well. In past studies, 60 per cent of the people in this range were men.

Interestingly, men's testosterone levels fluctuate through the seasons and studies have shown that men's scores are lower in the spring, when their testosterone levels are at their lowest.

Do our cave dwelling ancestors offer us any clues about why men and women score differently on this task? Find out more.

Spot the difference
This task tested your ability to identify which objects changed position

Your score: 57%
Average score for men: 42%
Average score for women: 57%

What does your score suggest?

If you scored between 1 - 33%: You may have more of a male brain. Scientists say men tend to under perform in this task. The corpus callosum, the part of the brain that links the right and left hemispheres, is a fifth larger in women. This means women can process visual and other signals at the same time more easily than men. There is also a theory that oestrogen levels in women give them an added advantage in spatial memory.

If you scored between 34 - 66%: You may have a balanced female-male brain.

If you scored between 67 - 100%: Those with a female-type brain generally score in this range. Your ability to remember where objects are may serve as an advantage to you when you're trying to find your way around places. You're more capable of recalling landmarks to get from one place to another.

Find out more about our spatial abilities.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 2

Hands
You said your LEFT thumb was on top when you clasped your hands together.

Right thumb on top: This suggests the left half of your brain is dominant. Many studies have tried to establish whether there is a relationship between handedness and brain dominance. Some scientists believe that if you are left brain dominant, you would be more verbal and analytical.

Left thumb on top: This suggests the right half of your brain is dominant. Some studies theorise that as a right brain dominant person, you may excel in visual, spatial and intuitive processes.

However, these theories are debatable and leave much to be said about the small percentage of people who are ambidextrous.

Find out why right-brained people may be better fighters and artists.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 3

Emotions and Systems
This task looked at whether you prefer to empathise or systemise.

Empathy
Your empathy score is: 7 out of 20
Average score for men: 4 - 12
Average score for women: 8 - 15

What does your result suggest?
Empathisers are better at accurately judging other people's emotions and responding appropriately. If you scored 15 and above, you are very empathic and would be an ideal person to comfort people in a time of crisis. Women in general are better at empathising.

Systemising
Your systemising score is: 12 out of 20
Average score for men: 8 - 16
Average score for women: 3 - 12

What does your result suggest?
Systemisers prefer to investigate how systems work. A system can be a road map, flat pack furniture, or a mathematical equation, anything that follows a set of rules. A score of 15 and above suggests you're good at analysing or building systems. Men in general are better at systemising.

Scientists are keen to learn more about people who score high or low on both tests. They want to find out whether or not empathising and systemising are linked. Is a possible to make yourself more empathic?

Some scientists claim that our empathy and systemising abilities can be traced all the way back to prehistoric times. Find out more.

Eyes
This task tested your ability to judge people's emotions.

Your score: 7 out of 10
Average score: 6 - 9

What does your result suggest?

If you scored 0 - 3: Do you think you're good at judging how another person is feeling? Your score suggests this doesn't come to you quite so naturally.

If you scored 4 - 6: Your result suggests you have a balanced female-male brain and find it neither easy nor difficult to judge people's emotions.

If you scored 7 - 10: Your result suggests you are a good empathiser, sensitive to other people's emotions. Women generally fall into this category.

Professor Baron-Cohen at the University of Cambridge says that people usually perform better than they expect to on this test.

Men often think a person's eyes are sending signals of desire when that's not the case at all. Find out more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 4

Fingers
We asked for the measurements of your ring and index finger. Your ratio came to:

Right Hand: 0.95
Left Hand: 0.93

Average ratio for men: .96
Average ratio for women: 1.00
It's thought that your ratio is governed by the amount of testosterone you were exposed to in your mother's womb. The ratio of the length of your index finger to the length of your ring finger is set for life by as early as three months after conception. Even during puberty, when we experience intensive hormonal changes, the ratio stays the same.

Men generally have a ring finger that is longer than their index finger, which gives them a lower ratio than women, whose ring and index fingers are usually of equal length.

Studies have found that men and women with lots of brothers generally have more masculine finger ratios. Find out what other things scientists think our ratios may tell us.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 5

Faces
This task looked at how you rate the attractiveness of a series of faces. The images you looked at were digitally altered to create slight differences in masculinity.

Your choices suggest you prefer more feminine faces.

Highly masculinised male faces possess more extreme testosterone markers such as a long, broad and lower jaw, as well as more pronounced brow ridges and cheekbones.

Interestingly, women's preferences are said to vary across the menstrual phase. A more masculine face is preferred during the 9 days prior to ovulation, when conception is most likely.

A typical 'attractive' female face possesses features such as a shorter, narrower, lower jaw, fuller lips and larger eyes than an average face.

Are you surprised at what researchers think they can learn from your answers? Find out more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 6

3D shapes
This task tested your ability to mentally rotate 3D shapes.

Your score: 12 out of 12
Average score for men: 8.4
Average score for women: 6.4

What does your result suggest?

If you scored 0 - 6: Do you find yourself having to physically rotate a map to point in the direction in which you're travelling? This might explain why you scored in the lower range in the 3D shapes test. Twice as many women as men score in this category. Previous studies suggest that those with a female-type brain or with an arts background fall into this range.

If you scored 7 - 9: In past studies, 50 per cent of the people who scored in this range were women and 50 per cent were men.

If you scored 10 - 12: Are you an engineer or do you have a science background? People with these skills tend to score in this range. Past studies have concluded that people in this range have a more male brain.

Nearly a third of men who took this test got full marks, whereas less than 10 per cent of women managed the same. Find out why.

Words
This task looked at your verbal fluency.

You associated 10 word(s) with GREY and you named 5 word(s) that mean happy. We are assuming that all the words you entered are correct. Scientists will be analysing your results in more detail.

Average score: 6 - 10 words
What do your results suggest?

If you produced 1 - 5 words: You are more of the strong, silent type with a male brain. You probably find it easier to express yourself in non-verbal ways, preferring action rather than words.

If you produced 6 - 10 words: Most people in this range have a female-type brain.

Women are said to use both sides of the brain when doing verbal tasks while men mainly use their left side. Studies have shown that girls develop vocabulary faster than boys. This difference in brain power is caused by levels of pre-natal testosterone. Find out more .

Ultimatum
This task asked you how you would divide money.

If someone offered you £50, you said you would demand £20.

On average, people offer 35 to 40% of the pot.

Sex differences are small in this task. An offer of more than 40 per cent of the pot (ie £20) is more typically female and an offer of less than 35 per cent of the pot (ie £17.50) is more typically male.

Scientists believe that people with lower testosterone levels tend to take fewer risks so they are probably more willing to keep less for themselves. Those with higher testosterone levels tend to drive a harder bargain and are less compromising.

Men's testosterone levels fluctuate over the seasons and are at their lowest levels during the springtime. This is said to influence their bargaining power. Find out more about the role of testosterone.
XDDDDDDDDD

Yup, yours truly is currently employed at Jason's deli, over here by my house. As in less than 10 minutes away. I can only be late if I try (which I won't).

In other news, my soul has been taken by World of Warcraft, and I didn't put up much of a fight. I can't wait 'til I'm running this baby on a gig of ram... Oh yeah, first paycheck, you know it. XDDDD If you play WoW and wanna say hi, I'm Tavinah on Lightning's Blade. Go trolls, shamans, and Horde! XDDDDD Way too much fun, that game, WAY too much.

Grandma is still moving out, but it looks like I've got first dibs on the downstairs bedroom/suite, as I haven't unpacked anything since we moved in. Yay! Means I'm that much closer to the front door when I do move out. >XD And it'll be that much harder for people to steal my shit (stupid sister).

And now I am on my first day off, so I flee into the recesses of the episode of MacGyver that's on (we got better cable, too). ARGH. *headdesk, repeatedly*

Good news: I'm getting to make a WoW chara on Nino's account. Since he works days, I'll play, and he'll play at night when he's home. At least until I get a job that can support my <strike>habit</strike> gaming. Current chara scheming? A troll shaman or undead rogue on Lightning's Blade with himekokurai, and a night elf hunter on whatever alliance server I find.
